How to upgrade my cruise?
When we first started cruising it was a nervous wait, a friendly email and an awkward smile at check in that might just get you a free upgrade. Those days might be gone but you can still grab a bargain upgrade on your cruise for much less that the price it would have originally been.
There's no magic spell to guarantee your upgrade but the odds can swing in your favour and the stars might align for you.
They might all have different names and fancy websites but most of the cruise lines now provide an opportunity to upgrade your cruise at a discounted price. After you've booked and usually around 3 to 4 weeks away from your cruise keep an eye on your emails for an invitation to bid on an upgrade. If you don't get an invitation no need to feel left out, use the links we've provided below and enter your cruise booking number to check. If the computer says no don't panic, just try again a bit closer to your cruise. The odds will improve to 'win' an upgrade when several conditions are met. Firstly and probably the most obvious, the more you bid the higher chance you have of winning. Clearly the cruise company want the most money so will choose the highest bidder each time. But, it's no the only factor. To get a sneak preview of your chances do a test cruise booking of the cabin type you are bidding for, if they are sold out then your chances are slim, but not zero as others above you might cancel or even be bidding on a higher grade stateroom. Also check to see how many cabins of the type you are currently in are available. If they are sold out your chances are much higher, the cruise company can sell them easier than higher price rooms so will be keen to bump you up and resell your cabin. Finally, there's no harm in sending that cheeky email asking if you can be upgraded and as soon as you get onboard pop to guest services to check for any last minute cancellations.
Booked with Royal Caribbean? Click on the photo above and see if you can nab that upgrade. If you don't ask you don't get. Well it's certainly worth a spin of the roulette wheel. With the chance of cruising like a rock star at third class prices why not give it a go?
For P&O bookings click on the photo and follow the instructions for a chance of pampered butler service. Suite life might be beyond most of our budgets but with P&O's upgrade programme you could be sipping chilled champagne for the price of fizzy wine.
Sailing with MSC and want a chance to swop your inside engine room cabin for a luxury suite with a whirlpool on the balcony? Click the photo above and enteryour booking details. The amount you bid is per person for the first two people in the cabin 9third and fourth passengers don't pay any extra.
Cunard cruisers can click above and check if they are eligible for an upgrade. Cruise like royalty pay working class prices. For the ultimate couples cruising experience where white gloves mean afternoon tea rather than an awkward medical examination.
